Two UP Rural High School students were given the “Award for Extraordinary Effort” for their researches on November 1, 2012 at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. Rainier Lomboy and Hannah Luisa Awitan were honored for their researches entitled “Carabao (Bubalus bubalis) Manure as an Alternative Component in Construction-Grade Mud Bricks” and “Growth Rate Performance of Broiler Chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) Supplemented with Neem (Azadirachta indica), Ampalaya (Momotdica charantia) and Ginger (Zingiber officinale) Extracts in Drinking Water”, respectively.
The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) celebrated its 15th founding anniversary with a weeklong festivity which started on February 18, 2013. Traditional anniversary activities included the INSTAT Family Feud, Pasiklabatch and Sportfest and culminated with a symposium entitled “Statistics for an Informed Comprehensive Planning for Local Government Units” held on February 26.
Political Science Professor Bing Baltazar Brillo of the Department of Social Sciences (DSS) was awarded the 2012 Metro Manila Commission Professorial Chair Award for his scholarly output entitled, “Bureaucracy-Legislature Dynamics under the Intervention of a Multilateral Institution: The Policymaking of the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA)”. The awardee conducted his professorial chair lecture at the Department of Social Sciences on February 4, 2013 with the attendance of faculty members and political science students. Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Dean of the Graduate School, also graced the lecture.
