FCS 2021 Chen 1
5th Free Consulting Services conducted by
the Institute of Statistics

In celebration of the 32nd National Statistics Month, the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) warmly joined the Philippine Statistical System through its public service event, the 5th Free Consulting Services (FCS). The two-day FCS was held last 18th and 25th of October 2021. The Statistical Consulting Group of INSTAT together with the INSTAT Extension and Public Service Committee jointly organized this activity.

INSTAT accommodated faculty members, graduate, and undergraduate students from various higher education institutions across the country. Participating faculty members hailed from Mindoro State University, Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College, Northwest Sama State University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines Manila. Moreover, graduate and undergraduate students came from Cavite State University, Central Luzon State University, Holy Angel University, Visayas State University, and University of the Philippines Los Baños. Some of the research areas that the participants are working on include nursing, education, rural development, chemistry, and development communication.

FCS has been employing a needs-based approach in targeting its beneficiaries. The activity was publicized through social media and the official INSTAT website. All interested participants were asked to fill-out a form and were requested to give an informed consent. After data collection, the organizers matched the specialization of INSTAT faculty members and the research area of the participants. The activity evaluation showed high satisfaction among the participants.

Since its first launch last 2019, FCS has been a great venue for INSTAT to network among HEIs. FCS aims to promote the sound use of statistical theory in research in various disciplines. It also aims to promote the strength of INSTAT in statistical consulting service in the areas of experimental designs, statistical modeling, statistical computing, and survey sampling. Since then, INSTAT decided to do this public service activity biannually, every INSTAT Anniversary and National Statistics Month.
