Embodying the Spirit of Bahaginan Amid Challenging Times: CAS sends off 165 graduates in Virtual Testimonials

The UPLB College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is proud to send off a total of 165 graduates of 12 degree programs offered by its units through its virtual testimonials happening on August 5, 2021, 4:00 PM, through the CAS Facebook page.

Themed “CASama sa Bahaginan Tungo sa Pagsulong   sa Bayan,” the  CAS virtual Testimonials shall honor the graduates who have completed their curricular requirements during the Academic Year (AY) 2020–2021. At the same time, those who have completed their deferred grades and remaining requirements for graduation during  the  2nd  Semester AY 2019–2020, when the lockdown was put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, were also included and honored in the final list of graduating students.

This year’s theme of bahaginan or sharing valuable contribution towards nation building is a timely concept in today’s challenging times. With  the  still-occurring pandemic and  the various community mobile- zations that brought together  the Filipino people, the college hopes that its graduates would also provide meaningful, empowering, and compassionate contributions in their various fields. The CAS Testimonials, which is a showcase of messa- ges, videos, and productions from students, faculty, and   staff, shall serve as a reminder for the graduates that the world is waiting for their service, in the spirit of honor and excellence.

Headlining the graduates  are eight honor students, led by BA Philosophy (BAPHLO) graduate Kyla Marie Cabbuag Pauig, sole magna cum laude graduate from the college and recipient of the CAS Faculty Medal for Academic Excellence. The other honor graduates (cum laude) are Dean’s Medal of Merit for Academic Excellence recipient Armee Sedillo Taylo [BA Communication Arts (BACA)] and CAS Medal of Merit for Academic Excellence recipients Elena Kyla Esteban Katipunan (BACA, CAS Medal of Merit for Academic Excellence), Mariel Amador Bravante (BS Mathematics and Science Teaching), Alfonso Luigi Miguel Peñafranda Sallan (BS Applied Mathematics), Reyno Manuel Umali Manilay (BAPHLO),  Yire Jeung (BACA), and Carmel Rose Malones Rolloque (BS Agricultural Chemistry).

Meanwhile, BS Biology graduate Jeromir Gabito Bondoc is the recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the Red Cross Youth of UPLB. The college also pays tribute to Camille Capunpon Sta. Maria of the BS Chemistry program, who has passed away prior to graduation.

This special issue of CAS Accents also contains the list of graduates, who will also be part of the UPLB 49th Commencement Exercises happening virtually through UPLB and college online channels on August 7, 2021.
